Three-Side-Seal Bags

What is a three-side-seal bag?
It is a flat pouch supplied with three edges sealed and one edge open for filling. The packer fills through that opening and closes the remaining edge using the agreed sealing method. Identify the open edge in your brief, rather than relying on a width-by-length figure alone.
Three-side seal describes the construction, not the material. It does not automatically mean LDPE, PET/PE laminate or a vacuum-suitable bag. For a different seam layout, compare LDPE side-seal construction and LDPE bottom-seal construction.
Outside size is not usable packing space
Send width and length in inches and say whether they are outside measurements or usable internal measurements. Sealed margins occupy space around the body; the filling edge also needs room for loading and the final seal. Do not deduct a guessed seal allowance: ask for the agreed usable dimensions and seal widths in the quotation.
Describe the contents' shape and filled depth, not only their weight. If you are replacing a current pouch, include its opening direction and which dimensions you want to keep. The plastic bag measuring guide explains why the product space and overall dimensions should be stated separately.
Confirm material and packing process separately
Vacuum packing is an application, not a seam name
If vacuum use matters, include the equipment make/model, sealing arrangement and storage conditions. Use the vacuum packing bag guide to distinguish PET/PE enquiries from special-grade blue food-export bags. Neither a three-edge seal nor a blue colour proves the required grade or machine compatibility.
Finished pouches and film rolls are different formats
Ask for finished bags if that is what your packing team needs. PET/PE laminated rolls are rollstock, not finished three-side-seal pouches. Confirm the complete material structure and proposed format rather than treating a roll listing as proof of a finished bag specification. Send a clear three-side-seal quote request
- Product to be packed, filling method and which edge stays open.
- Width, usable length and outside dimensions in inches, clearly labelled.
- Requested seal margins, material structure and thickness in micron, if known.
- Final sealing equipment, vacuum use if required, and storage or handling conditions.
- Plain or printed presentation, quantity in kg and delivery city.
